speed = distance / time

speed = 40 feet / 5 seconds

speed = 8 feet per second

use the equation
d=rt
distance= rate x time
or as my math teacher says "dert"
in this example u r given the distance and the time so it looks like this
40=r5 or
40=5r
so just divide 40 by 5 and ur answer is 8
then put it back into the equation
40=8(5)
