No. That's an urban myth that's been around for a really long time, although the "ask three times" part is completely new to me. Until the mid-1980's, a police officer *was* always required to honestly identify himself, but the Supreme Court fairly recently ruled that a cop is legally allowed to lie in the pursuit of his duties in order to maintain his cover. Although such a practice is perfectly legal, it just makes me lose even more respect for our government.

if you are getting pulled over or if some plain clothed person walks up to and tries to arrest you, you can ask for the badge i would just cuz of weirdos pretending to be cops. but i don't know about the whole asking 3 times thing

If he is undercover it doesn't matter how many times you ask he does not have be truthful and risk blowing his cover and any info he gathers can be used. If he is not officially undercover, but just in plain clothes, you only have to ask him once and he is required by law to identify himself as a police officer if he is one.

You have to make sure the cop isn't crossing his fingers behind his back. It might be true if you ask a uniformed police officer, I wouldn't count on it for an undercover police officer.

Yes, yes that is true, and if you tap your heals together 3 times then the crack your smoking has to release it's hold on you. Matter of fact, if you say "I don't believe in the prison system" 3 times with your eyes closed, then you'll never go to prison

It's called entrapment and it's an urban myth. They can tell you whatever they want. Don't break the law.

If he's under cover he can date your mother telling her he's a drug dealer, every night while he's gaining information on you.

Get serious!
