Definitely Metallica. I never paid a bit of attention to "thrash" metal music until I heard Metallica's "One," the story of a soldier permanently disabled by a landmine. I had never even considered the fact that that type of music could have something profound to say. Most of their songs do, and I especially feel the ballad "Nothing Else Matters."
Newer bands like Staind and Disturbed (With great social commentary in "Stupify," "Down With the Sickness," and "Liberate.") are catching up, though.

black sabbath... im not into like, metal too much but they are one band i have always loved.... like, crazy train and iron man its amazing.
