I hope you are not buying this thing. the trans is going out and the ac needs service. Trans could cost upwards of $2000, as for the ac ,it could be as simple as a fuse $.075, or a compressor + recharge $500 plus. Look for something you don`t have to repair just to drive it. Unless you are getting it for a few hundred and have money to spend on something that is falling apart ,I would run like H in the other direction

OK think of the shift lever as a H pattern first is at thee top on the left second straight down third over to the right 4th straight down then over drive is off to the far far right right can be up. so here's what there saying when they go into first they rev that car up to speed going from first sliding it over to the right straight up to third then straight over to the far right and up in to over drive so looks like fourth gear is shot too? syncros are out on that tyranny or a busted shift fork that car need a new tyranny or a over haul on it sounds like some one was speed shifting it with out using the clutch up to you if ya want to buy it?

look for a better deal
gear crank is busted on this one need new crankshaft
also ac/heater busted from air intake and lock busted
this car has been in a collision
to get working will cost loads and wont be reliable or safe
forget it and look for a better option

It's an automatic transmission.
It's a FORD.
It's not working right.

Find something else...........Problems, problems, problems...

ADDED:
The only good thing is, it's not a Pontiac Grand Am.
They're even worse.
