That is because America, to most people means The United States of America. By your logic, if they were to call the U.S.A. North America then there would be an error. They exclude Mexico, and Canada and you Get America, U.S., U.S.A., The United States or The United States Of America or America for sort. Both Canada, Mexico and The United States of America are part of North America.
Look at it this way, you drop the United States of and you get America. Need I say more! I never heard of any other individual nation refereed to as America. Although, I have heard of Both South America and North America, refereed to as the America's.
Peace!!! Love!!! Health!!! Harmony!!!

The USA is funny. There's nothing funny about central and south america. They're impoverished, corrupt and humid. Plus they've a bunch of commie fascists in Venezuela. I'd like to see that country bombed backed to the stone age.

This is a good point.
USA's founding fathers were the first to take the name. Nobody told the Canadians, Mexicans or other Central and South Americans that they could't use the name America as their national identity.

I would assume because our country is well known, and USA stands for United States of America. I can’t think of any other country off hand that includes the continent in their name.

Because it is the united states of AMERICA. There is no other country that has "America" in it's name

cuz if they meant central or south they would have said "central" or "south" before they said "america" i think that is pretty straight forward.....usually people from central or south america talk about which country they are from anyway, so they most likely use that name.
