No, I wouldn't keep the jewelry. If I was caught with that box of jewelry in my home, or on my person I could be linked to a crime. I could be falsely accused of burglary, or receiving stolen items. I would be leary of returning the items to the police also. The best solution would be to have a witness that you found the items. Someone you can trust, someone who is respectable. And have them go with you to return the items you found to the police. But I am going to take a wild guess and predict that several policemen's wives will be getting jewelry out of the situation.

as much as i would like to keep it, conscience would make me turn the stuff in. and besides, if it goes unclaimed long enough then it gets returned to you and you can keep it.
