My pediatrician told me I could start my 2month old on veggies so today I tried to give him some but I'm not sure I'm introducing it to him properly. It seems as though his tummy is reacting to it badly. How should I be introducing him to it? He's been eating rice cereal with a spoon so it has nothing to do witht that and he has an easy time with the rice...

What the hey? What Cracker Jack box did this doctor come out of?

American Association of Pediatrics says no solids until 6 months, certainly not veggies! Your baby still has a tongue-thrust reflex meant to push food out of his mouth!

2 months... it's a little too young and thats why he's having trouble with the veggies. Cereal is the easiest digestive baby food.

At around 6 months of age babies develop enzymes in the their intestine that can digest the veggie/fruit. untill then, only cereal is recommended..

Also, babies have a tongue reflex that doesn't fade untill 4 months of age that doesn't allow them to eat anything solid.. So i'm very surprised that your baby will eat from a spoon..

I would really do your research on introducing solids, and why it's best to wait..

*Your pediatrician is a little old-fashioned.. change doctors.

I personally think he is a little too young to be starting him on vegetables. My pediatrician didn't start my babies on food at all until 4 months. I would stick to the rice cereal for a few more months. His digestive system probably isn't quite ready. If I were you I'd look into a new pediatrician. Good luck!

Breast milk or infant formula supplies all of your baby's nutritional needs for at least the first 4 to 6 months of life, so don't be in a rush to start solid baby foods. Starting solids too early can cause your baby to develop food allergies. Your baby's intestinal tract is not as fully developed during the first few months and introducing solids at this time can be too much to handle

Another reason for not giving solid foods earlier than 4 to 6 months is unintentional overfeeding, since younger babies can not offer you signals when they are full, such as turning away or showing disinterest.

A third reason for holding off on solids is your baby's inability to swallow solids correctly before 4 to 6 months of age and this can potentially cause choking. And contrary to the popular myth, starting solids early will not help your child to sleep through the night.

at 2 months your baby is not ready for veggies. most pediatricians do not recommend "food" till 5/6 months and then you usually start with the rice or oatmeal cereal. his tummy is prolly upset with the veggies as it is TOO much for him. i would find a second opinion.

Two months is WAY too soon to be introducing foods. A baby shouldn't begin eating baby food until s/he is between 4 and 6 months. I don't know what your pediatrician is talking about but my advice would be to stop feeding him anything except breast milk or formula. Good Luck.

NOOOOO a 2 month old should only be having formula or breastmilk. their tummies can't handle solid foods yet. At 4 or 6 months old you strt them on cereal. Any sooner than this and they may develop allergies to the food. You need a new pediatrician. I couldn't imagine what other horrible things he/she has told you to do! omg

Have you considered getting a second opinion since your pediatrician is going against the recommendations of every reputable health organization on the planet, not to mention most scientific studies (I am sure there must be a few nutty ones out there that say you should start solids at a few weeks of age, but I haven't seen them).

Sheesh, just because ONE doctor says it doesn't make it true.

what kind of DR do you have. You should have not even started ur baby on cereal until 4 months at the least and the rest should be even further. I have a 5 week old and I would never do such a thing.

WOW!! 2 months old and eating cereal and starting baby food? Where I live they won't even allow you to start cereal untill 4 or 5 months old because the food can cause their digestive system to have problems. My doctor says that their stomachs don't have all the acids and stuff in them to properly digest food. If your having some trouble maybe he just aint ready to start that kind of food just yet.

American academy of pediatrics does not reccomend solids until 6 months of age. Of course there are exceptions. Some babies who have severe reflux are given weighted feedings with rice cereal.
