i work full time, have a very big house, and clean it myself.
i don't want a maid, i don't want someone else here going through my things. getting a maid is lazy unless you are away more than you are home. and in that case, get an apartment or condo.
my husband gets the huge yard, i get the big house, it even out

I have a 5 bedroom house, and do all the cleaning myself, as well as the gardening. I no longer go out to work, although I do still do occasional catering from home. I have never had a maid, simply because I have never wanted one. I like to do things MY way, not have someone do them their way. I actually enjoy cleaning the house, especially as the children are now out of the home, and I have more time. The only thing I do not enjoy is the ironing, so I only do that once a week. When the children were still at home, they did have to help, by keeping their own rooms clean. I would just go in once a week and give them a thorough cleaning, just to get to the places they never did. When I was still working ( catering from home) I didn't get the same amount of time as I have now, so the only place that was cleaned really thoroughly every day was the kitchen, everything else was just kept tidy, and cleaned properly once week.

I used to work, take care of my son, and clean the entire house, 3 story's, 5 bedrooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just got to pick a weekend, and go for it. Tell everyone else to leave, and crank up the music. Just too make it easier, through the week, pick up here and there, and make sure to do a few loads of laundry a day. That way the most you have to do is dust, vaccum, make a few beds and mop. Your done. Hey, I did it just fine, now that I'm a stay at home mom, I have to wonder why my husband acts like his work and HOME responsibilities are so hard, when I did it before, plus managed to cook dinner, and spend quality time with my family. The main thing is, you gotta MOVE, you can't come home feeling sorry for yourself or your gonna sit down and let the mess go ANOTHER day. If you do a little here and there, the weekend wont be spent cleaning the entire house but just doing the things that don't fit into the weekly schedule, I managed to still get my "me" time too.

Our house is a little over 5000 square feet. I have 2 small children and a 13 year old that studies abroad. I also work full time. Just returned back to work in August from maternity leave, baby was born May 3rd of this year. Let me tell you............. my house doesn't need much cleaning cause I have extremely strict rules on cleaning and organization. Everyone cleans after themselves and the kids cannot leave the house until their beds are made. Their closets are color coordinated and impeccable. Every night, I iron everyone's clothes for the next day and food is packaged days in advance ready to cook. I am obsessed with cleaning (this is my OCD-- I also see it as exercise. My mom did the same to me. Remember that scene in Mommy Dearest with the hangers.... that's my upbringing. I am glad I was brought up like this.
BTW, my husband and I own a cleaning business.

I have four kids and a five bedroom house and work fulltime. I finally started having someone clean every other week a few months ago. It is a lot of work to still try to keep it up. It is worth what I pay to come home and have a beautiful home every two weeks. I did the Flylady thing, but even that is difficult if you are working a lot and all of your family members are involved in other things.

I clean my own house. I work full time, go to school full time and have a toddler. I've thought about getting a maid, but frankly that money can go to my son and my husband. I think when I am pregnant with my next child I will get some help, but right now I am fully capable of doing it myself.

Yes, I have a 4 Bedroom house. Yes, I did work 40+ hrs a week. Also add 3 kids and all the fun extra cirrucular activites. My husband travels M-F for work, so he's not even home to ask him to help me get a break.
Why didn't I want a maid? Simple, I didn't want anyone rifling through my stuff and taking things. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I knew who had a cleaning lady, stole from them.

Heck, I don't work and it's hard for me to stay on top of everything. I am a meticulous cleaner, I don't just wipe surfaces. So, I might steal a day of rest then I start the vicious cycle over again.
I commend working women, with children and big homes. There is no way I could stay on top of everything. I would definitely do more surface cleaning.

I have my own business, a handicapped child, and a dog and yes I clean my own house and business and I do all the yard work myself. I wonder what people who don't work do with all their time. It comes down to two things time allotment and making sure everyone pulls their own weight. Even my son cleans his own room , takes out the garbage and unloads the dishwasher. I don't have help because it would not fit into the schedule.

I work part time (weekends), and attend grad school full time (mornings), I watch my son (2pm-on) and I clean my house. I have a 4 bedroom 3.5 bath 3000 sq ft house. I do it myself, with little help from the husband. Im not sure why. . maybe im crazy. I would feel lazy though if I hired a maid.
