I think creativity is one thing that drives you to a higher pedestal. If there is no such instinct then imparting love and giving something to those who don't have them makes life meaningful. It may be love, life or light.

I do not know nor know if it is knowable. However, I do know the significance of 42! Douglas Adams wrote a series of books including "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." In the book, a computer(Deep Thought) takes 7.5 million years to answer the question,"What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?" This is similar to your question. The computer's answer was 42. So get busy trying to interpret the meaning of 42.
As to why should you live, well, I've been there. Someone's advice gets me through the day: You might as well stay around and see what happens because otherwise it's all over.

To answer your "42" question.... it is a reference to a book called the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and when asked the meaning of life the answer is 42.
or as Wikipedia says "The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything has a numeric solution in Douglas Adams' series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In the story, a "simple answer" to The Ultimate Question is requested from the computer Deep Thought - specially built for this purpose - and it takes it 7½ million years to compute and check the answer - 42."

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Well the point of life is to live. You should live because whats the altrative. Am not sure if you just wanted people to comment or if you really are having a hard time and are having dark thoughts. All I can say things do get better. Bad things happen and some people have more bad things happen to them then they should but you have to find something postive. Sometimes its hard but pain is a part of life but people who exprience pain also can exprience pleasuer so much more which is wonderful.

The happiness that comes from things one might consider the smallest parts of life. The simple pleasures in each day...A friendly greeting, a shared smile/laugh, a pleasant conversation, or just spending time with someone who makes me happy and is happy to be around me - these are only a few of the many examples of the simple pleasures of life that can be so beautiful if you take time to recognize and enjoy them...
A reason at its simplest, to go on living each day.
Best wishes to all,
