have you ever talked about someone behind thier back and while you were you didn't happen to know that they were right there listening? if so what happened and how did you explain it to them if they said "what did you say?" or something like that

and monster..that didn't happen to me that was just a random question that i wanted to ask to see how other people handled it. i don't talk behind peoples backs its rude

This isn't something to be bummed out over. Just realize that it is a lesson. Talking behind someone's back usually means you were speaking negatively about them. It says in the bible "let he who hath no sin cast the first rock" no one should throw rocks, everyone has their situations in life that they are dealing with. You should always be trying to help people and talking behind their back never helps them and unbelievably it actually hurts the speaker of ill will worse. As I think you are realizing now...

You could go with the classic approach, and say something like "not you... another person named ____". You could be honest with them, apoligize, and hope they'll forgive you. Or, when you notice that they heard, quickly change the statement to make it sound good.

But, honestly, you shouldn't have been talking behind their back anyway.
