Funny how the Boston fans come out of the woodwork for that question, after spending over 50 mil on that lemon Dice K. Money doesn't always buy championships, true. However, not spending money and running your team like Nike hardly ever gets championships Chances are, your team is owned by a conglomerate of billionaires, who are always crying poverty. Convincing their teams fans that they can't afford to do what the Yankees can do. Meanwhile, they're using your tax dollars to build luxury boxes that the taxpayers can't afford. They tell you the extra revenue will go to buy more talent, but you never see that talent, the Yankees do. The circle of baseball life. I'm a Yankee fan because I know they'll do everything humanly possible to bring home a championship. When ticket prices go up, I can look on the field and see where the money went. Can you say the same? Or will they not let riffraff like you in to all those private areas to see where the money went?

When will people like you learn that the Yankees are getting away from having a high payroll and are developing and bringing up their own players?

When will Yankee haters learn that even though the Yankee payroll is high, it will go down substantially over the next two years as the contracts of Giambi, Mussina, Clemens, Pettitte, Rivera, and Posada expire?

When will people like you learn that the Yankees put more money INTO the game than any other team?

It's also hilarious to hear Red Sox fans complaning about the Yankees payroll when the Red Sox payroll is SECOND, and the gap has closed substantially. Also, it wasn't the Yankees who paid $103 MILLION for the rights and signing of an overrated, very average Dice-K.

well like i always say you cant buy wins in paper you can look and be the best , but you have to prove it out there and ball players win you games i never believe you can buy a ws title and this is coming from a Yankee fan if that really happened you can buy championships then there would not be any baseball in they would wait in October and just get the trophy and the end and we would repeat this for ever but we don't live in that world they have compete to get in the playoff like each team does they have money to get players , you can pay players as much as you want but that does not mean there going to be perfect and win all 162 games

Well, lets be realistic. If it cant buy a WS, it can usually buy you a place in the post season. It would be nice if it weren't so, but under the "buy a pennant'' system that MLB now has, the deep pockets will almost always be there-or very close-at the wire, while the small market clubs are usually fodder to fill up the schedule with (not to mention a farm system for the deep pockets, so they can buy the small market clubs' 5 year free agents.). 200 mil is usually enough to get you into the playoffs, and the Bankees have a pretty good chance of making it in this season.

First of all, they are not the only team with a high payroll. Second, if whatever your team is had the money and would spend it, you would not say i wish my team wasnt spending all this money. They have overpaid some players, not doug menkavich, he is hurt. And last off season they didnt make any big moves because the market was so high for just average players. IS J.D. Drew worth 12 mil or w/e he got, i dont think so. There are a lot of players being overpaid.

may be when they realize that the money spending they do isnt working anymore because this year they have straight out sucked and they havent had a share of lead in their division.and heres another thing.the yankees payroll is twice or three times as much as the payroll of the arizona diamondbacks but the diamondbacks have been better this year and they have actually LEAD their division.the yankees just gotta learn that their 200 million dollar payroll cant actually always win them championships because when they spend that money some of the players turn out to be a dissapointment and they under-achieve.its even hard to believe that their pay-roll cant actually even get them good pitching because their pitching is the main reason why they suck this year.

You're preaching to a deaf choir here, and big market teams like New York, Boston, LA, etc.. are main reasons why baseball needs a salary cap.

I don't think they'll ever learn.
When you buy a bunch of self-centered superstars, who only think of themselves, you get a team that doesn't play like a team.
And teams win Championships.
