mind is composed only of thoughts.
the state of deep sleep shows us that something continues whether we are consciously aware of it or not.
thinking is not necessary to being.

It is the same question as who are you when there is no hair?
for normal people may think that this person probably suffer CANCER or may be is a MONK....but for that person prefer no hair just wanted COOLING feeling.......
different living attitude, different mind...if mind is not there...life still go on...not a big deal!!!

You need to ask whether mind is different from consciousness. Vedantists and certain Yogins among others believe that mind and consciousness are different things (the ideology to which Mr. Larry was sort of alluding to). The idea is that you don't have to have thoughts to be conscious. Indeed, asyou stated, when you are in deep, dreamless sleep, you are conscious but don't have thoughts. In certain advanced states of meditation , you will be conscious but have no thoughts. When you emerge from deep sleep or from this deep meditation, you will have a kind of "memory" of being absorbed in nondualistic, non-self-conscious state. Some persons who claim to be "enlightened" say that they do not have thoughts--or at least do not relate to their throught streams as ordinary people do. In the state of "absorption," the idea is that we are in our own "true nature" : timeless, changeless, and merged in Consciousness. Thoughts cease upon merging into "consciousness" because duality has been obliterated in that state--there is no "other" to think about. We find statements like this in the Upanishads and also in the famous Buddhist Heart Sutra of Great Wisdom.
Paraphrasing in brief from the Briharanyaka Upanishad: Where everything has become one's own Self, what is to be seen, what is to be heard, what is to be felt , what is be known by the knower.

Best question I've seen in a long time.
In deep dreamless-sleep, nothing exists but ultimate reality. So, if something doesn't exist in deep, dreamless sleep, then it is not real. All else is only perceived as real because you are currently experiencing (as you read this) the 'waking state of reality' which is a shallower, dream-like level that you will wake from when your "time on earth" as they say, expires. When you wake, you'll say, humm, it seemed so real. The flowers, my wife, my joy and my misery, they all seemd so very real. Interesting.
Everything you can perceive in this waking state is not seperate from you, so don't waste your time judging things, or judging people in any scenario, its all a PART OF YOU, and its NOT seperate from you. Your mind (as you perceive it) and my mind are ONE. And that mind/spirit is ONE with (not seperate from) God. You are one with your source. That's why you'll never be able to see it... there is no cosmic mirror for that. You can't hear your ears and you can't see the witness (you) refererred to in metaphysics books as 'I'. The supreme I. The Objective I. A.k.a., Ultimate Reality.

knowing so little about what they are you've not only imagined them to be seperate, but you're also completely ignoring the concept of personality altogether
