A head to toe physical exam tests your muscle strength in all of your extremeties, tests your balance, reflexes, eyesight/hearing, listen to heart, lungs, intestine. Also depending on your age if you're young, they take a peek at your privates to make sure that you're at the proper development stage of puberty for your age. Alternatively, you may get a pelvic exam as well, but only if you're sexually active. The current guidelines say that pap smears should start 3 years after sexual contact or at age 21. If you're not sexually active you probably won't be getting a pap. There is no pain involved in a physical exam, so you'll be fine. I hope this helps.

You do not have to have a pap if you are not sexually active. It is recommend that you get a pap before the age of 21 or with in 3 years of becoming sexually active. You may get a pelvic exam but a pap smear is not need at this time.

Really they are no big deal. I have never had one hurt.

A pap smear doesnt hurt. It is just a little brush that captures some cells from your cervix. You may get a little bit of spotting but nothing big. Even if you arent active, they are still a good idea!!

Nope, doesn't hurt at all. It's just a q-tip with an extra long stick. They'll dab it inside of you to get cells from your cervix. No need to panic, you probably won't even feel it. If you can stand when they rub your arm with alcohol and a cotton ball before you get a shot, then you'll be FINE!!

You need to have a pelvic exam starting at age 18, even if you aren't sexually active. The gynecologist will have you put your feet in stirrups. She will insert a speculum into your vagina, use a swab to remove cells from your cervix and put them into a culture. She will palpate your lower abdomen inside and out to check your uterus and ovaries. She will also examine your breasts and listen to your heart and lungs.

You will probably experience some discomfort, but probably not pain.
