it all ways is on the baking area and goes in the water just for food then go right back to the baking area

As long as he has access to both water and land, he should be okay. I'm sure he goes in the water more than you think he does.

no it's not a bad thing it's a totally normal thing, in fact is the same thing my 3 year old red eared slider turtle does the same thing she only goes in the water when she's hungry, so when i see her in the water i know that she's hungry. But my 1 and a half year old red eared slider turtle is the opposite he swims when he's full and when he's hungry he goes to the baking area.

its fine, different turts have differeint preferences :) my Reeve's turtle is mostly out of the water also. they arent as big of swimmers as res, but i wouldnt worry about yours as long as he is eating and healthy. ive heard of other res doing this, too.
