This is going to sound cheesy probably, but I had a boyfriend in the military that was the only man I had ever fallen in love with. I was moving on to another assignment while he was staying on at the base where we met. I wasn't going to get to see him for his birthday so before I left, I gave him his gift. It was a pair of my grandfather's cuff links. I knew he would have no use for them, it was the sentiment and the symbolism of the gift itself. He confirmed that he had no use for them when he said, "What the heck am I supposed to do with these?" When I told him they had belonged to my Grandpa, and he knew the story about how close I had been to him and how much my Grandpa meant to me, he then got this look in his eye and in that alone I never saw so much love and feeling in all my life! When they say the eyes are the windows to your soul, I guess they really meant it because until that moment, I didn't believe it!
