In captivity, they are given mice. I've bred alot of California kingsnakes, and the babies have never had a problem eating small pinky mice. In the wild, they'll eat just about anything: mice, lizards, and other snakes. They're actually notorious for eating snakes, including other kingsnakes and even rattlesnakes.

Unfortunately for you, king snakes need mice/rats. Nothing else is as good a substitute. Please don't feed it fuzzies if it's the size you describe. It probably couldn't get it's mouth around it, and even if it did, there's no way a tiny king like that could eat a whole fuzzy or rat pinky. With that said, no big deal if you don't feed it tonight. Get the pinkies (smallest ones available... my pet store was out today! urgh!) tomorrow when you're out. Don't substitute just for fun. It can wait until tomorrow. You'll both be happy you did!

I would try a small pinkie (baby mouse). You may want to try a cricket first. Make sure that the food is about the size of its head. Snakes can separate their jaw bones to take in food that is a little larger than their heads. A pinkie should go down fine, but try the cricket first and wait a few days.

My brother had one,and he had to feed it frozen pinky mice, but they were still too big for it.So he had to warm them in a cup of hot water first and then cut them in half and feed them with tweezers so he could wiggle it back and forth. In the wild, kingsnakes eat other snakes, lizards and sometimes mice,so you might have a hard time getting it to eat, unless you can find a very small lizard! Ask the people at the petstore or call your local zoo.

When they are smaller like this one you go to a petstore.. and buy pinkies you feed it one that is no bigger than the biggest part on it's body...
When it starts eating 2 or 3 of them in less than 15 minutes then move on to fuzzies then small mice, meduim mice, larger mice, then onto rats.
Good Luck - remember never feed it anything that is bigger than the widest part on it's body.

NEVER FEED CRICKETS!! Colubrids are unable to digest the exoskeleton and they can damage their esophagus leading to death! Petstores give out this piece of incorrect information all the time. Feed day old pinkies, either live or frozen/thawed. All mine take f/t easily. If possible, always feed well warmed frozen/thawed mice. It's easier and safer. Do your research! You should never purchase an animal before finding out about them!

Pinky mice. That's awful though...for me anyway. Pet stores who sell reptiles, also sell food for them...such as pinky mice, but if it were me...I'd opt for the frozen ones, not live ones. I never could feed live things to the snakes. I'm just too sensitive about it I guess. Hence, the reason I never owned a snake myself.

She needs to eat 1 day old pinkies. I use frozen and thaw them. Some pet stores carry them or you can buy them on line. Please read up about them if you are going to have one as a pet!
