ok so i received a check in the mail today for winning a contest worth 2550 and it seems to be real but im not sure.it has everything a real check does.anyway also i got a letter saying if i pay a processing fee 5% (using the money from the check) i can get a new check worth 38258$.everything is real, and they tried to call but i didnt pay my bill so they couldnt call so they sent me a letter.the letter seems real, and it has no typos and it has a real adress and it is legit as far as where the compnays is located(canada)i live in the us.the check even has a number and the paper has a ref number.it said call a *female, cant say name*and it was really her.is this a scam, because it doesnt sound as bad as the other scams out theyre.other scams tell us to pay them with our own money, but theyre asking us to cash a check and pay them.the check and letter are from utah.it sponsors were walmart and coca cola.

1. It's a scam.
2. Even if is was not a scam, it would be illegal for your to take part (U.S. law prohibits participating in foreign lotteries or using the mail for gambling).
3. Their scheme is to keep the processing fee and not send you the new check.
4. The check that you have will bounce.
5. Walmart and Coca-Cola did not sponsor it. Call those companies and ask.

fake!!!

To Avoid scams here is what i tell people...
All spam emails/unsolicited phone calls/letters and faxes are scams.
As a general rule - ANYTHING involving Western Union/money gram = Scam.
my Advice: Don't deal with anyone from a foreign country or Accept checks from strangers and never use wire/bank transfer services.. you risk losing your $$ and your mind.
Remember, if it sounds too good
to be true, it probably is! NEVER(ever) give out your personal information to strangers online or offline! Always be on guard.

there is a way to find out if the check is real or fake. all banks have a 9 digit routing number. It is also known as ABA transit number. Through google you can find various websites which tell you the name of the bank if you enter their 9 digit routing number. You should do that. If the website fails to identify any bank with the routing number on your check, then its fake. There are 3 numbers written at the bottom of check -- routing number, account number and check number. Banks identify themselves with the routing number, not with the name.

can you say SCAM? First of all, don't count on even the first check ending up being really valid. Send them the "processing fee", then you'll be out that much when the first check bounces.

Odds of Walmart and CocaCola really being involved here are very low.

This is check fraud. This is a scam. Do not accept the check, return it. Talk to your bank.

If you really won something, you wouldn't have to pay a processing fee.
