This question really isn't about the division, its more about a posible playoff matchup and if this series serves as any preview red sox fans should be sweating because they supposively have the best staff in the AL yet their 3 best pitchers matched up against the yankees 3 pitchers can't win a single game.

Do you really think Red Sox fans will admit that they are concerned? Of course they are sweating their butts off. All I can say is it's the end of August and the Yankees have the Red Sox right where they want them. What usually happens this time of year? Yankees will make the run and win the division and the Red Sox will be wondering what happened. AS USUAL!!

Think about it, Dice-K looks every bit the minor leaguer that he is. Beckett choked big time and Schilling showed just what a loser he really is. The Red Sox are done!!

I think they should be very nervous. Dice-K has "won" two games against the Yankees this year, despite having an ERA of almost 7 against them. The Yankees are not afraid of Beckett and raked him for 13 hits last night, and Schilling is a soft-tossing windbag who the Yankees seem to beat pretty regulary now. I like the Yankees' chances if they meet in the playoffs.

Also for the Red Sox fans who are putting the Yankees down for not leading, or having to settle for the wild card, you are idiots. If I remember correctly, Boston has been the wild card team FIVE times, including 2004. Your team doesn't win its fluke World Series if not for the wild card.

Well I wasn't pleased with Beckett's performance but I pretty much expected what the Sox got from Dice-K because he has been killed all year by the Yanks...Curt pitched really well though but the Yankees just stepped it way up pitching wise...I am not worried by the pitching I saw and I am not worried about the division...I still think the Sox will win the East and I am happy with the 5 game lead we currently have.

How does the Evil Empire feel about leading the Wild Card and probably having to face the Angels in the ALDS with the first two games in the Yankees own house of horrors.

i think one thing to keep in mind is that the Sox didn't have: Manny Ramirez- that whole line-up looks different when you have Ortiz and Manny back-to-back.

Just look at how the Tigers have been sliding since Sheffield went down. It's not just one-guy but key at-bats and RBI situations matter in playoff atmosphere baseball.

Just a thought-- i'm a Dodger fan...

Not bad at all. Still, if you can hold on to that Wild Card spot over the Mariners, Twins, Tigers, A's, then wow I can see us playing you guys and i smell a sweep. Go RED SOX!!!
