Probably because they make themselves feel better by putting other people down. I'm guessing you're school age? It has less to do with them being "gangster" and more with them being insecure...feeling the need to show everyone they are tough or whatever. The truth is tho that everyone makes fun of everyone....I mean, can you honestly say you never make fun of them..or anyone else? If you can dish it out, you need to learn how to take it....

If they do have knives, don't risk it. Be strong, walk away and know that 10 years from now you'll probably very successful while they're losers flipping burgers at McDonald's...

Best of Luck

They do it because they have the power to pull it off. It's easy to threaten someone and make them do your will if you have no morals and are armed. The threat of physical harm allows them to become bullies. They have no regard for life so they can bully. They are actually the losers. It isn't much fun to have some one pick on you but they are the losers. It isn't fair you have to put up with them but then life is not fair. There is only one way to get rid of them and if you do then you are as bad as them. Keep your self respect and keep safe. That's the most important thing until you can move to a better neighborhood. Plan on a good education. It will take you whereever you want to go. And good luck. . .

The insecurity factor plays a major role in the actions of so-called "gangsters". The appropriate term is "thugs" rather than gangsters (gangsters originally came from the mafia in Italy and Russia in the 1920s). Oftentimes, these people are insecure within themselves and need to subject others to feel the same demeaning that the abusers oftentimes feel (misery loves company). But this only leads to more and more false bravado, spinning them into a cycle of abuse and crime.

However, the thugs are not part of any singluar culture. The thug culture is a culture in of itself. Therefore, since this culture is not self-confident (as noted above), the culture requires those within to help "boost" up the level of egotism within each member. The thugs are trapped within a cycle. Their actions are dictated not only by themselves, but by the very culture that they live in.

Solutions exist. Oftentimes, we people think to retalitate violently, but this only spurs on the feeling that the abusers have some power and are using this power to influence others. The best solution is simple ignore and avoid them. By avoiding them, you prevent youself from becoming associated as well as from falling underneath their power and their actions and becoming influenced by them, positively of negatively. If worst comes to worst, protect yourself and those that you love. However, remember that oftentimes, these people need our pity more than our rage.

Honestly, they are like that because they have issues with themselves. They feel inadequate and unloved, so in order to make themselves feel better and more powerful, they cut others down.

The best thing to do is feel sad for them. They are hurting on the inside, so they choose to hurt others. All you can do is love them and pray for them. Do not engage them because they will most likely "play up their rep" and increase their abuse of you in order to look more powerful in the eyes of their peers. All they want is for people to love and respect them, but they are getting it the wrong way.

I don't think it is a racial thing. Every culture has its gangster class. Gangsters don't become mean people. Mean people become gangsters.
