All those companies make pretty good small cars. It just depends on what you are going to use it for. If its for commuting, the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa are good on mpg. People are pushing Hybrid but to me the benefit is small. Besides lowering the smog emissions of the environment, money saving wise kinda evens out. The reason I say this is that, for example the Prius, has batteries that is warrantied for 150k and after that, Toyota recommends you to change it. The cost of the battery is somewhere @ $3000-$5000 bucks. So where is the savings? Even now there is a recall for the Prius because for some reason it just turns off when you are driving.

All three are great cars but depending on where you live you may want to stay away from Subaru but only because they can be even more expensive to maintain than Honda or Toyota. I would also consider Nissan. I've had a Nissan pickup for ten years and it has 185,000 miles on it and I've had only one major repair and that was a timing chain.

All 3 cars are very reliable, but Honda is the most reliable and has the best looks. The Corolla is the slowest and gets the better gas mileage. The Subaru is the fastest and gets the worst gas mileage and comes in all wheel drive so u could drive it in snow.

For the sake of gas mileage on a long commute, we bought a used Honda Civic hybrid. It performs well. Check the Ratings of Consumers Reports for more information.

Subaru may have the best warranty of the three.

Honda is the most popular of the three.

Toyota is right in the middle.

all great choices you really cant go wrong. if your going for brand new then definetly get a hybrid because of the gas mileage and the tax breaks. if its a used then just go with as low mileage as possible make sure all the preventive maintenance has been taken care of especially the timing chain or belt, and of course make sure it fits your needs and the styling that you like.
