Centrino Duo is Intel's platform that includes an Intel dual core processor, Intel chipset and Intel's wireless chip. The older ones contain Core Duo (Yonah2, 32bit only). The newer ones contain the better Core2 Duo (Conroe, 64 bit). Some ordinary salesmen have difficulty distinguishing between the two. If you really want to be sure with what you are purchasing, install CPUZ on a flash drive. Plug it into the computer you are buying then open CPUZ. Check out the processor and RAM details to your heart's content.

Intel Core 2 Duo and Centrino Duo are the same with minor differences. Core Duo is a marketing brand to signify a duo core processor , in other words 2 Pentium M processors in one package. It is actually 2 processors package glued. Core 2 Duo is of a combining 2 pentium M processors in a single silicon without the glue mentioned above. The 2 processors shared a common Level 2 Cache memory , and thereby, improving performance. A core 2 duo is far superior than an Intel Core duo which is the first generation of duo processors. Centrino is just a marketing brand to indicate the platform certified by intel on a notebook. It comprises a processor, a wireless network hardware and a specific chipset. So, adding a prefix or posfix of Centrino only means to emphasize a platform solution supported by Intel and certified in the labs. A Centrino platform comes with a mobile processor with lower performance with comparison to the desktop processor. In terms of price, you can't buy a centrino platform processor! But, in terms of performance, the desktop processor e.g. Core 2 duo are the best. hope that helps

The Centrino Technology is a combination of an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel ProSet Wireless A/B/G, and an Intel Accelerated Graphics card. Also, most newer Centrino notebooks have the Intel Turbo Cache Memory which speeds up the transfer rate from the hard drive to the processor. Centrino notebooks also feature lower RPM hard drives to save on battery power and reduce hard drive spin time. In the future, computers with Centrino technology will have solid state drives. Combined with the power saving and mobility features in Windows Vista, a 15" notebook with Centrino technology can achieve battery life of over 5 hours in normal use. (i.e Surfing internet, listening to music, etc. That dont use much power.)

core 2 duo is a generation newer than core duo. they are both dual core. centrino is a way to advertise intel processor, intel chipset, and intel wireless in the same unit (if they aren't all intel, they can't use the "centrino" brand). when intel went away from the speed-named processors (pentium 4 2ghz, etc), they went to the model-based naming scheme and i don't know if there's any way to equate the number with a speed. clock speed isn't as important now as it used to be, which is why they changed. a quick google search should give you the speeds of any processors you find.

the x2 processors from amd are the dual cores. athlon is their desktop line, and turion is their mobile line. there's no rule that says you can't have a desktop cpu in a laptop, but mobile processors typically run cooler and are more energy efficient in their standard configurations.

Centrino Duo is another name for a Core 2 Duo, a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (a/b/g/draft-n), and an Intel Mobile 965 Express chipset.

However, if your in the market for buying a new laptop I would recommend a MacBook or MacBook Pro ( http://store.apple.com ).
