Yes, to become any kind of doctor you need Chemistry.

ALL medications that any doctor can perscribe are chemicals. How do you expect to be able to perscribe them if you don't understand how they work or what they could do?

"Chemistry (from Egyptian kēme (chem), meaning "earth") is the science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. Chemistry is a physical science related to studies of various atoms, molecules, crystals and other aggregrates of matter whether in isolation or combination. It also incorporates energy and entropy related studies to various chemical substances.

There are several specialized disciplines within chemistry, traditionally grouped by the type of matter being studied or the kind of study, the main amongst them are:

Inorganic Chemistry, the study of inorganic matter,
Organic Chemistry, the study of organic matter,
Biochemistry, the study of substances found in biological organisms,
Physical chemistry, the energy related studies of chemical systems at macro, molecular and submolecular scales."

Every function of any living organism is driven by chemical reactions. When a child (or any person) has a disease, many normal chemical reactions can be changed or disrupted. Having an understanding both of what is normal, and what changes with disease, helps a doctor determine the best treatment, and sometimes more importantly, which treatments will NOT help. That is why you have to have a solid understanding of chemistry to become a medical doctor of any type.

If you can't pass Chem with at least a B, I highly suggest looking into a different major.

I would be scared of a pediatrician who couldn't do chem or bio.
