If you seriously want to be accepted so it isn't a problem for your friend to receive calls from you then you'll want to be completely polite. Good Evening Mr/Mrs (friends last name) how are you this evening? They may in turn ask how you are doing...politely answer fine Sir/Mamm thank you for asking...May I speak to (your friends name) please. This approach whether real or not will make it easier for you and your friend. Label yourself as a punk and the one paying the phone bill may not be up with you tying up his/her line.

Hello this is mark. May I speak with Ron. Something like this. Anything less is rude.

Are you leaving a message on the machine? or with someone live? If on the machine, just state your name and say 'give me a call' if it's with someone live, ask if you can leave a message?

Uhhh NO, you put a smile on your face (because that comes through on the other end) then you respectfully ask for that person by name.

No, I ask for the person I called for. IE, Is Fred at home? Or Can I talk with John please? I will also add who I am.

" Tell Leroy to haul his aasss over to the phone" Is more to the point , and leaves no doubt as to what you want ...........
