let me see

6 = -y + 42 -2y

6 = 42 -y-2y

6 = 42 - 3y ( I combined the y 's )

3y + 6 = 42 ( I added 3y to both sides )

3y = 36 ( I subtracted 6 from both sides )

y = 12 ( I divided both sides by 3 )

Hey there!

Here's the answer.

6=-y+42-2y --> Write the problem.
6=-3y+42 --> Add -y and -2y.
-36=-3y --> Subtract 42 on both sides of the equation.
12=y --> Divide -3 on both sides of the equation.
y=12 Use symmetric property of equality i.e. if a=b, then b=a.

So the answer is y=12.

Hope it helps!
