Yes, any type of soap/detergent and water will kill fleas.. So, just vacuum the bedding really good BEFORE you toss it in the wash... If you don't vacuum it you'll have a real mess left in the drum of your washing machine.... I sprinkle my carpets, dog bedding and furniture with baking soda and let it sit overnight and THEN vacuum... The baking soda smothers the fleas..If you mix regular iodized salt/baking soda that will not only smother the fleas and puncture the eggs ! It also freshens and deodorizes the carpet and attracts loose dirt.. It's super cheap to buy at the wholesale store under $10 for a 12 lb. bag of baking soda and $2 for 3 lbs. of salt ! It's also NOT harmful to people or pets.. I also leave a cheapie dog flea collar in my canister vac to kill any live one's... I wash everything my dog sleeps on.. She's usually confined to her bed or kennel... If you are worried and want to check for anymore fleas in the house.. Leave a desk light on the floor of your room and shine it into a white shallow dish with about 1/2 inch of water with a couple drops of dish soap.. If you have little critters in it.. Keep vacuuming... If the infestation is truly bad.. You may want to consider "bombing/fogging" your home.. You can buy foggers from HOME DEPOT for about $10-$15 for 6... I bought 12 and did the whole house.. Don't forget the basement... If they don't work.. Call the manufacterer and request a refund... I got coupons for $20 since the product was guaranteed just save your UPC/RECEIPTS

I myself wouldn*t chance it; While your dog is being treated (I assume at the vet) I would get some Raid Flea fogger and do the house; Every place your dog has been fleas may have dropped off; the carpets, sofa, your bed, ====
Get the Raid at Wal Mart; in the cleaning dept or garden dept. Follow directions carefully

I doubt. Regular detergents does not contain harsh chemicals (Consumer protection) to kill fleas. Try using dog shampoo.

Collect bedding, rugs and throws and wash them in soapy water. Soapy water kills the eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. Be careful not to spill eggs or larvae when picking them up. Eggs are usually found with tiny pellets of dried blood that are defecated by the adults and used for food by the larvae - the combination looks like salt and pepper. Really gross salt and pepper.

Here's a web site with some good tips..=)
