For me it took around 8 weeks, then at 9 weeks I broke out in a rash with it, so now on mirtazapine. Good luck, and try to be patient, it can seem like forever for these things to work.

If you are not seeing a therapist try that also, it may help.

Citalopram is an antidepressant drug used to treat depression associated with mood disorders. Citalopram is primarily used to treat the symptoms of depression but can also be prescribed for social anxiety disorder, panic disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Also prescribed in Huntington's disease and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Citalopram belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is common for antidepressant drugs to take 4-6 weeks to show an effect, so I'd give it another couple of weeks. If you don't get benefit by then (or if you are desperate now) call your doctor and tell him you'd like to increase the dose to 40 mg/day (the maximum dose allowed).

That's an antidepressant, right? Then I'd give it another 2-4 weeks. Are you feeling any effects at all? I might ask my dr. if I could increase the dosage if you're not receiving any help at all.
