To thejanith: Will the paint used on the white still be permanent, or will it wash out? Also, will the fabric still be flexible and not ....how do i put this, crinkle or something?

As mentioned by an earlier response:Tulip paints are really good.

Make sure you use the Tulip line known as "Tulip Soft Fabric Paint. Here is the product description "...It is highly opaque yet extremely soft to the touch. Even better, it covers beautifully on dark, machine washable fabrics whether brushed, stenciled or stamped...."

You will never get good results trying to apply light colors to a dark surface. I like Tulip fabric paints myself, but there are many good brands. Get the ones in the squirt bottle and then use a brush with them.

To make lighter or brighter colors show up on black, first paint the design in white, ecru, or cream paint. Don't spread it too thick, but cover the black. Let it dry well. THEN, use whatever colors you like, and they will show up beautifully on your dark background. It does take a little longer, but if your finished product is worth making, it's worth making right.

Puff paints in a squirt bottle look great on black. Go for metallics too. You can use the brush if you want, just lay it on thick.
