Anyone know this guy? The guy who drowned while listening to Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"?

Well, if you do, can tell me some things about him (I've never heard his music before). What's great about him? It seems he gets so much praise from critics. Is it his voice? Or maybe guitar work? Or lyrics?

And also, his two albums are hailed beyond belief for an alternative rock artist (I think the two other alternative rock artists that are widely praised are only R.E.M. and Radiohead?). Thus, do you think he had potential to become one of the true greats (with the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc.) had he not drown?

Definitely take a listen to his Live At Sin-e album (the Legacy edition, not the Ep.....)

What would you like to know?
His father was Tim Buckley, an amazing folk singer in the sixties, who like his son, died young (age 28 of a heroin OD).

Jeff had the voice of an angel........his range was amazing (take a listen to, say, Grace and then listen to Corpus Christi Carol). He could evoke so much emotion through his singing (listen to Hallelujah, I Know Its Over, Last Goodbye) Jeff was never afraid to experiment, he crafted each song until it was perfect to him. He carefully arranged songs to the standards he wanted (that's why he scrapped the original For My Sweetheat the Drunk). Even though he did a lot of covers......he made them his own (Hallelujah, Lilac Wine, I Know Its Over, Kick Out the Jams, Kanga-Roo).

Before his death, Jeff was placed (by critics) at the head of the alternative movement. To me, they were right.

Even though he only completed one studio album in his life, it is a classic...........his career was in its infancy, yet he produced greatness. He is one of the true greats, even though he did not live to fully see it.

If you really like him, definitely have a listen to:
Grace (mandatory!)
Live at Sin-e
Live at L'Olympia (he does a cover of Kashmir....which is great)

and if you can find it:
Live at CBGBs
Live at The Phoenician Club (in Sydney 9/6/95)

One thing I know about Jeff Buckley is that he was much bigger here in Australia than anywhere else in the world including the US. Grace was voted number 2 as Australia's all time favorite albums in a recent poll. Dark Side of the Moon (Floyd) was first. and I think OK Computer (Radiohead) was 3rd.

He was a guy who put out an album called "Grace" back in 94 which is widely considered as one of the greatest albums ever. He is personally one of my favorite singers.
