The majority of antidepressants take a few weeks at least to get into your system properly and for you to start seeing some benefit from them.
Also, if you do have any side effects, these usually subside after a few weeks. Again your system needs to get used to them.
Try this link to the Mind website:
Making sense of antidepressants:

the information is easy to read and understand.
As with any drug it can have a different effect depending on the person taking it. Some people will find it works for them while others find an alternative that is better.

Hang in there, but if you find you are having any major problems then go back to see your GP, that is what they are there for.
Take care and good luck.

That could depend on what else is going on in the mental backround. Are you anxious and or suffering from Obsessive compulsive disorder, been abusing alcohol or drugs recently?
Also are you getting enough sleep and not pushing yourself mentally or phisically?
Basically it seems that everyone is different.
My main problems are OCD and Chronic Anxiety which makes me depressed.
I've been on Cipramil 60mg for over a year now, and to be honest im still depressed, but I know this has a lot to do with the underlying condition.
The tabs they gave me for alcohol abuse were great for the anxiety, but are addictive, so they wont prescribe them long term.
Best advise,
Take it easy on yourself, feeling depressed is a normal reaction to abnormal circumstances.
Get plenty of rest but avoid sleeping in the afternoon or early evening like the plague.
Think about something that might interest you for example brewing Kumbucha or Kefir - Apsolutley brilliant health inducing drinks (virtually alcohol free) cost only cents to make.
Kumbucha is made with sweetened Tea and when brewed tastes like a mix of Apple and Pear Cider, and is naturally sparkling.
Kefir is made with milk and has the consistancy of drinking yohurt.
Both have strong anti-depressant properties and will also help Anxiety.
Try a little exercise.
Forget about the booze even if you start to feel better.
Check in with your Doctor if you dont notice your Depression lifting after 3 weeks/5 weeks etc.
Ther are lots of anti depressants out there its just a question of getting one that suits you.
I successfully used one a couple of years ago but like the current medication is not great for me as my Depression is secondary.
If you have any other problems or symptoms do tell your Doctor so they have the full picture.
Best of luck with your recovery.

Everyone is different.
You'll feel strange for the first week or 2, maybe even nervous.
Then you'll see the real benefits (3 weeks onwards)
They are awul IMHO, Fluoxetine is best.

From MY experience these tablets are bad news. I used to get disturbing nightmares with them, Plus I piled on the weight. They are not guaranteed to work either. Good look with the depression though Hun, Hope it goes away soon. xxx.

It can take around 3 weeks. So give it time to work. Good luck with whatever you are going through.
