Does he think that by being in Iraq he is REALLY protecting the U.S. that well? First Al Qaeda has pre-9/11 strengths and has reformed in Pakistan NOT Iraq and there is not attempt to stop them or catch them what so ever. There are no MAJOR terrorists in Iraq anymore. Just home grown terrorists who want us out. Second with all of the illegals getting into our borders why does Bush think that terrorists are not? If he is SO insistent on fighting terrorists than how come terrorists can come into out country so easily? If illegal Mexicans can get in than nothing is stopping terrorists either. Isn't it a rule of thumb when trying to protect your country from an attack to secure your own base FIRST? Terrorists from lets just say Al Qaeda could come into this country so easily through South America or Canada but a majority of troops are in Iraq instead of protecting our borders. Why is this?

WHC warrior....why isn't Bush doing anything? Why does he WANT the borders open? Democratic congress has only been here a few months. I am not saying that that I impressed with our current congress but what about all of those years we had a Republican congress? Why didn't they fix it?

Scuba dog....Bush is the huge hypocrite here though. He is willing to go as far as INVADING other countries but he cannot even secure our borders. We have the technology and man power to secure our borders. Why aren't our troops here keeping terrorists out of our country? Why isn't the money being spent on this technology?

I am as perplexed as you are. Bush has done some good things, like appiont convervative judges and be tough on terrorism, but some of the things he does are to say the least counter intuitive. He has been a big disappointment to those who expected a conservative president. He is far from conservative. Otherwise, he would be protecting our borders. At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist, I think there is something to him wanting to form a North American Union with Canada and Mexico. What other explanation is there? He does it stealthily, though, as if to slip it by the American people. Not only can terrorists get in, but I am sure you have seen the stories on the Mexican-American border where there are shoot outs and in Nuevo Laredo there have been several police chiefs killed, all because of drug violence. I say our national guard should be placed mostly on that southern border and they should not have their hands tied. Look at the crazy thing that happened to the two border guards who shot a drug smuggler in the butt! They got 11 and 12 years respectively. Absolutely incredible! They should be hailed as heroes!!!!

I am a Bush supporter. I voted for him twice and think he is doing a wonderful job and has handled more than a lot of presidents ever had to handle, BUT...I totally agree with you on this issue.
While I don't agree that the troops being in Iraq make a difference (it's not military job to guard the border, that would mean declaring martial law I believe) on this issue Bush seems to do nothing. Only lately has there been any progress on enforcing the laws we have on illegal immigration and that is only after the public outcry. My vote in the presidential election will be mostly based on who commits to do something about our border problem.

come on,i may disagree with some opinions here,
this country is so culturally diverse, this is where it starts bush has made it this way. those who come here trying to escape here through bureaucratically demands trying to better lives,it is a chance for better life, as for the American hierarchy[s] a set up for people to fear, in the eyes of the us government .the American government provocated terrorism (behind closed doors) as it is rightly rement

Immigration, including illegal immigration through the southern border, is the only thing keeping America's population growing. Without population growth, it's harder to manage economic growth, and ponzi schemes like Social Security (the 'third rail' of American politics) collapse. No American politician is serious about securing the border.

Then we could see with our own eyes just how much progress was being made to secure them, not that we can't see now. It's both parties, they don't want them secured because of the flow of illegals. One party wants them for their votes the other for their cheap labor, either way, Americans lose.

Why are the democrats trying to aid Bush in opening our borders and in fighting terrorists.

You voted the Democrats to power yet they don't do what you want. Why do you blame republicans for your parties failure to do a single thing you say you are for?

I don't know... it doesn't make much sense.

Most people misconstrue me for a Bushitte or a Bushey or some other nonsense because of my realistic views pertaining to Islamic terror. I am not.

I hate to say it but, I think wisdomforfools has it right...

George is foolish enough to think he can out pander the Democrats.
He wants hispanics to be Republicans, but he is misguided.
