Because you believe in something does not make you moral... quite to the contrary if you believe strongly enough that you can do wrong but be saved by admitting your sins and giving yourself to Christ, than in fact you are using the very God you say makes you moral to be immoral....

why do we accept faith based morality as a standard... when Time and again the same people that preach it the most are involved in universally corrupt activities ?

You are so very right. One does not need to be religious to be moral, and many religious people have no morals at all. Or maybe they're just hypocrites. But, as you said, if you're a Christian for instance, god will forgive your crimes if you're saved! What a deal! What a scam!

Religion is one of the single most destructive forces in the world. It's too bad so many people can't think for themselves- the world would be a better place if they did.

You have the concept of repentance a little twisted, although I do agree that sometimes people use it as an excuse. People can be very moral without religion, but the fact is that much of the morality we call morality in the US is based on religious doctrine over the years. Morality changes constantly in society. First you have to define a societies morality and then you can look at who follows it and where it came from.
Repentance is a belief that humanity is not perfect and we will all in some point sin because the flesh can be weak, but when we do there is a way to find your way back to God and that is by admitting your sins and then NEVER doing it again. It isnt an excuse to continue to do bad things and then just say you are sorry. I tell kids all the time when they say they are sorry, you arent sorry if you keep doing it. You arent a moral person if you continue to do immoral acts then claim you are sorry for it. You also arent truly practicing repentance if you are.

Nonreligious people most definetly can be moral people, but they can also be immoral too. Every group in any society has their bad seeds. If societies values and morals are based on the majority religion, it does make it easier to stay what society considers moral at the time, if you are raised to believe and live that specific morality.

Some of the comments in here and from the questionere make it seem like non religious people are saints. Just because you dont subscribe to a particular religion it doesnt make you a better person or a person proned to less corruption. Majority of people identify with a religion so it stands to reason that the majority of frauds and criminals will be a socalled religious person. Doesnt mean being religious makes you more likely to be a fraud or a crook. I guess if you dont preach any sort of morality at all then you can get away with doing anything and claim you arent a hyppocrite, but that doesnt mean you are any more moral. I am not trying to make the point that nonreligious people are less moral or more corrupt, but your argument does not logically hold up that religiuos people seem more corrupt. Its just that there are way way more religious people to become corrupt. Let us keep in mind that the gvt that pushed God completely out of existance, communism, killed the most people out of any other gvts in history. And religious people arent any more brainwashed then anyone else. Every atheists seems to have the exact same talking points as the next atheists so I guess I could claim them brainwashed as well. They arent any more freethinking than anyone else.

You have to live and practice the word not just mention it. God for laying the guidelines for good and bad behavior, while philosophers would take an alternative road and investigate the fundamental characteristics that define moral behavior. While moral codes vary throughout the world, they can be divided into two categories:Morals with regard to religion and Morals with regard to society. If you are speaking about Morals with regard to society the concept of good morality can be defined as an absence of bad morality. This is due to the fact that one is not obligated to do good, or in other words it is not enforced, demanded, required, in any aspect of society, however a lack of bad behavior is required. The principles of good morals are subjective to the individual, and are not as universal as bad morality, and thus harder to define. (Copied and Paste from one of my previous answers)

True Morality is based on that which the Ten Commandments teaches! And on the lessons set forth by Jesus Christ, A good start is in the book of James.

Here's some verses from James 4:1-10.

From whence come wars and fightings among you? Do they not come even from your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not; ye kill, and desire to have, and connot obtain. Ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adultresses, know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the Scripture saith in vain, "The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy"? But He giveth more grace; therefore He saith, "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw night to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. Be afflicted and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.'

Therefore, be ye not hypocrites, but righteous, as your Father in heaven is righteous.
