Hi expert,
My car has recently been making these louder than normal sounds which I'm guessing is a whole in the exhaust pipe or manifold. It gets really loud when the revs go up and settles down when the revs are low. Could some tell me exactly what has happened and what would be a rough cost for repairs. Would selling my car be a viable solution? Thanks for your answers.

if it is in fact in need of an exhaust repair, then that is good. Exaust repair is relatively cheap.

To find out if it's the exhaust gasket. Get help from your buddy and pop the hood. Have him/her to start the motor and rev it up. If the noise seems like it is coming from the exhaust manifold then that's it. If not then it is somewhere down the exhaust pipe.

I can't tell you exactly what happened because I can't see, or hear your car from here.

Take it to a muffler shop and get an estimate.
