You can join a good quality site where there is a community with it so that you are pretty much guaranteed to know exactly what it is you are considering before you even download it.
Demonoid.com is the biggest but it is a member community and you will find that most of them are. Lots of these sites though, either have an open door policy (anyone can register and be a member) or they will open the registrations for one day of every month...this is what demonoid.com do.
Try any of these as you can just join up as far as I know...
http://filesoup.co.uk/ (the best community driven open site I know..brilliant and friendly!)
http://www.kompletlywyred.com/forum/ (another great friendly easy to join site with lots of info on all the files)
torrentspy.com (not the best of community, but does have an active comments system where info is freely swapped)
Mininova.org (same as above, the comments will tell you anything you need to know or ask in the forums too)

Smaller more community driven & private sites. You can visit them to find out if registrations are being accepted or when they will be.
http://www.grabthe.info
http://www.zerotracker.com/index.php
www.uknova.com
http://www.community-palace.co.uk/
http://dididave.com/
http://bitnation.com/
www.torrentleech.org
http://www.scenetorrents.org
http://www.eztvefnet.org/ (ALL THE TV SHOW RELEASES AS THEY COME OUT FIRST!)
http://the-snake-pit.co.uk/
http://www.tmtorrents.org
http://torrentbully.com/index.php
http://www.tang-soo-do.us/index.php (martial arts films a specialty but other stuff too)
http://oink.cd (a bit snobby about opening for registrations but a very large selection of great music posts there so worth getting an invite!)
http://www.merc-tech.org/
http://www.libble.com/
http://www.torrentbytes.net/signup.php
http://tracker.zaerc.com/
http://bitsoup.org/
http://forums.mvgroup.org/ (lots of reviews on the high quality documentary and general interest film torrents here!)
http://www.bitme.org - Documentaries & educational stuff here with info on all files!)

I hope that has helped you.

there could be alot of reasons ill give u a mini guide:::::::

get utorrent 1.6.1 not the latest release and not 1.6

http://www.download3000.com/download-uto...

then go to

www.ilovetorrents.com

www.iptorrents.com

www.leecherslair.com

www.filemp3.org

www.mixfiend.com

reason being these sites make the users upload as much as they download so they keep their upload speeds blazing and that results in higher download speed for you.

if you plan on using non private torrents then

www.torrentspy.com

www.mininova.org

www.thepiratebay.org

www.isohunt.com

but for good speeds on these sights look for lots of seeds with low leechers

The site run by the pirates usually has a review section...

They tell you what it is and what to expect... You can read comments under the review...
