It's about 2 - 3 cm long. Black, it has quite a long thin abdomen which it curls up like a scorpion when threatened and large mandibles

From you description, particularly the tail curving up bit, I'd say it was probably a Devil's Coach Horse beetle (Staphylinus olens). It is a predator and feeds on other insects and grubs.

I'm pretty sure it's called a Devil's Coach Horse. The latin name is Staphylinus olens.

Devils Coach Horse is within the rove beetle group so the answer after me may be just as meritable.

I've seen Rove Beetles do that - I don't know if that's what you've got, but a quick image search should produce something useful.

My daughter found a spider a while ago and we looked it up on the internet and found it.
It turned out to be a common garden spider,ugly sucker tho

I know the beetle you found,but can't remember what it was,very aggresive thing!!!
