Assume what is meant is:-
(1/3) k - 4 = 1
k - 12 = 3
k = 15

I think you have confuse us somewhat with your equation.
Is it a) (1/3k) - 4 = 1
or b) (1/3)k - 4 = 1

a)
(1/3k) - 4 = 1

1/3k = 4 + 1

1/3k = 5

1 = 5 * 3k

1 = 15 k

1/15 = k

Answer is

k =1/15

b) (1/3)k - 4 = 1

(1/3)k = 4 + 1

(1/3)k = 5

k = 15

First remember you have to do the same to both sides. so do everything backwards, e.g. 1/3k-4=1 means first
+4 to both sides. 1/3k = 5.
Then 1/3 means divided by 3; so times by 3.
k = 15

1/3k - 4 = 1

add 4 to both sides

1/3k = 5

multiply both sides by 3

k = 15

you're done!

1. Add 4 to both sides:
1/3k = 5

2. Multiply both sides by 3:
k = 15.

Hi,

When dealing with equation, you can move the Left hand side (LHS) to the Right hand side (RHS) by inversing it

"What is LHS and RHS? Which are they?" you may ask.

Based on this:
a + b = c + d

The LHS is:
a + b

The RHS is:
c + d

Now, if you want to move RHS to LHS, you have to inverse it so that:

a + b = c + d
a + b - c = d

or

a * b = c * d
a * b / c = d

Now, let's answer your question:

1/3k - 4 = 1
1/3k = 1 + 4
1/3k = 5
k = 5 * 3
k = 15

==============================
Answer: k = 15

Hope this helps.

Kind regard,
Ryonn
