The secret to spell casting is not in any book in print.. You have to totaly believe that a spell will work for it to work.. you have to have faith in the Goddess and The God and believe they will aid you in your wishes..

also spells are not meant to work instantly, when you ask for something it might take years for it to happen.. sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months.. when it is time it will happen..

If the spell can harm someone else or yourself it may totaly backfire on you thrice.. threefold

Magik is not something to be taken lightly you can't just open a book and read a spell then POOF it happens.. thats unfortunatly the way many people see it.. you should study up on the spiritual aspects of wicca or whatever path you have choosen thourghly before even dabbling in spell casting..

Blessed Be )o(

You've got some very good advice from the 2 previous responders to your question.

Grimoires were/are really more like personal magical diaries rather than spell books for other people to use. Grimoires from the Renaissance are full of arcane symbols, cryptic notes , and recipes that would be very hard to put together nowadays between the herbs and minerals that you have to collect at a certain hour of a certain day of a certain moon phase, etc. --and then there's the problem of animal cruelty also. You need to be a scholar to really understand what is going on in them anyway.

When you get involved in Wicca or Ceremonial Magick in an authentic way, you will be working with a mentor or a coven or lodge. You will be given certain practices to build up insight, energy, communication with elemental and etheric energies and learn various basic rituals through which you can effectively understand and practice magic. It is a slow process. You will be asked to keep a "diary"--basically your own grimoire--that details your experiences and what kinds of insights, rituals, and spells come to you from your initiatory work. You learn spells from developing yourself into a magician (in the old, original sense of the word) and spellcasting develops through you--not from a recipe you found in a book.

Grimoires are books, written only so the writer could understand...

THE LANGUAGE OF THE BIRDS - it was called by one mage, Agrippa - Who's entire works are written in the language of the birds. Same claim has been made for Nostradamus and other famous Magicians.

As has been said already, a grimoire is a personal diary.

It also seems so don't know the true essence of being a witch...you sounded like me before i realised what true power of all dominion, being a witch rewards you with.

A witch is dark and light, terrible and loving, destructive and creative - a witch in the true embodiment of the Lord and Lady in eternal dance! These "happy" magick books you read are merely there to distract the unwitting and ward off those not meant for power.

If you want a good book on learning evocation, which is a High-Art meant only for the Advanced - this book is a good teacher. "Summoning Spirits" By Konstantinos.

It will take you through the process to become learned in the arts of western evocation - No, offence but your question does seem a little amatuer, for someone who claims they know what there doing.

*Sigh*

Grimoires are inherently flawed. For one, if you pay close attention to the directions, you'll find you usually need to cut out weeks of your life just to get prepared. Also, there's appropriate times for every action specified in them.

The first answer-er: Grimoires are rarely Wiccan in intent, so you might as well throw that out of the picture.

The probably best grimoire to read is "The Key of Solomon," published by Weiser books, and translated by S.L, MacGregor Mathers. That has the basic out line of a western magical ritual. The experiemnts presented in it though are highly impractical, unless you happen to own a mining crew.

After that, "The Lesser Key of Solomon," or "The Goetia," is on the list. This one s essentially the evocation of a choice of 72 spirits, usually coined Demons. I subscribe to the psychological model of magic, therefore they are not separate beings from yourself, just parts of me. This one is still involved, as are all of them, but it's mostly invlved in construction and abstinence.

There are several minor grimoires too. The Book of Honorius is very Christian, and illegal to practice in most areas [Unless your area lets you kill goats]. Th Grimorum Verum is also.

Before any grimoire work, one should probably work on visualization skills, as well as ritual.

My work is

2 Lesser Banishing Rituals of The Pentagram

Liber Resh Vel Helios

The Middle Pillar and Circulation of The Body of Light.

And anything can, as you say "Actually work," if you're good enough at it.

Most people respect the three fold law and respect nature so if you are trying to go against it you may find surprising results that you were not expecting to deal with.
