It's fine to drive barefoot. In spite of persistent myths, there are NO laws against driving barefoot. Unfortunately, this myth is so common that even some cops believe it... but everyone who believes this please see source and stop spreading this falsity.
Some cops are convinced it's unsafe and even though they know it's not illegal may try to write you up for unsafe or reckless driving, however please see the second and third link in the source, for two sites (one from the Michigan PD, one from an Australian newspaper) making it clear that driving barefoot is no more unsafe than many types of footwear that are regularly worn and could even be considered safer than many kinds of shoes.

Yes.
In comparison to some of the shoes that women wear it would have to be safer in some cases. We wear stilleto heels, and other heels that can get stuck. We wear slip on shoes that sometimes slip off or slide around. Some of our shoes are barely there to begin with. Have you ever tried to drive in those stupid pedi slippers? That has to be more dangerous than Bare feet.
If you had really sweaty feet then I would suppose it wouldn't be. As your feet might slip off the pedals.
For me personally, I'm a sock girl. My feet are always cold. If I have a day or an evening where I've been in neck breaking heels all night I'll keep a pair of comfy shoes in the car to put on, or sometimes once I get my socks on they feel so good I decide I'm good with that.

I think its safe, I drive barefoot sometimes. I dont see what harm could come from driving with noe shoes (or socks) on.
Some of my friends tell me that is is illegal, but Im not sure how true that is.

I don't think so--especially if I wear slip on shoes, they slide up too much when I drive and it's safer for me to kick them off. especially since I drive a 5-speed and have an extra pedal.

Yeah, it should be fine. Just bring a pair of shoes just in case there's an accident. You don't want to be walking on broken glass getting out of the car.

Yes. I do not see why it is illegal some places. I always have shoes nearby so I can slip them on if I get stopped, I would not want a stupid ticket.
