Fish to keep with Tiger Barbs (6+ in a school!):
Red Tailed Shark
Rainbow Shark
bottom dwellers (Cories, certain Loaches)

Fish NOT to keep with Tiger Barbs:
Angelfish will get their fins nipped off and constantly be chased
Gouramis also have long fins and will likely be harassed
small community fish like Tetras

EDIT: Clown Loaches get about a foot long and require shoals of 5+ to feel secure, making a 100+ gallon tank a good place to start for these guys.

Always keep Tiger Barbs in a school! If they're not in a school, they can engage in fin-nipping at pretty much any other fish.

You can keep any small (max. length under 5 inches) community fish in there that doesn't have long, flowing fins. A couple that would be compatible are:

More Tiger Barbs
Other assorted barbs
Small peaceful tetras
Peaceful bottom dwellers

And fish like that. Fish that would not be compatible (because of size, behavior, and/or fin length) are:

Angelfish
Gouramis
Oscars/any other agressive cichlids
Puffers (even dwarf)
And fish like that. Make sure not to overstock your tank, and have fun!

i have 12 in a 29 gallon and today i added two small albino cory catfish. i will probably get 2 more. i just dont want to add too much at a time.

i may also get a clown pleco.

go with more barbs and different color variations of them. they will all get a long.

keep a school of at least 8

dont keep anythingthat will get its long fins nipped, or slow moving fish or tiny fish like neon tetras.

no bala sharks. they get too big.

these fish are bullies. if you only have 1 then it'll hurt any other fish you put in(except for an aggresive cichlid which would kill it.) i would recommend more tiger barbs. they're really social and once they're together they dont really bother other fish.

I have three barbs, two gourami, an angel fish, a chinese algea eater, placo and a blue lobster. I might have been lucky, but these seem to be doing well together.
