I want CORPORATE ACCOUNTABILITY! I want them to admit that they know and that they have known for decades now that cigarettes cause cancer! And they should pay those who have suffered from all forms of cancer caused by smoking for misleading them into thinking it was safe. I want them to remove all of the chemicals and addiction causing agents from cigarettes. I want cigarettes to cost even MORE and the taxes from the sale of cigarettes to go towards programs to advocate quitting smoking!

I think people need to keep their noses and taxes out of my tobacco. My uncle got cancer and died but it wasn't the cigarettes that did it, it was the agent orange sprayed in Vietnam the Dow chemical corp; invented and refused to pay the victims restitution when they were sued! Your cheap China stuff is poisoned with chems that will take years to develop,,there are soooo many products that are totally unsafe for consumers, yet the corporations pay little taxes and collect corporate welfare, they blame EVERYTHING on tobacco. I think they've made BIG fools out of us ALL. Americans are so cowardly and greedy these days, they are willing to give up their liberty; constitutional and civil rights. People who do so, deserve neither.

A majority of taxes on tobacco goes to health care for the poor. Did you know that? Do you want to pay for their health care out of your own pocket? If so, then you better hope you are the offspring of Bill Gates.

Yes.
State & Federal Governments extorted billions of dollars out of the Tobacco Companies.
It was pure Extortion.

And the Companies just passed the billions on to their customers.

Hitler banned cigarettes.
Many people on Yahoo would have made good Nazis.

I hate cigarettes and smoking, yet I will not be a No Smoking Nazi.

My parents both smoked for me one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen as an ashtray. I have never touched a cigarette or a cigar and the thought of it fills me with revulsion. I hate breathing second hand smoke and I think that all smokers are fools being taken for a cheap high.

I also realized that prohibition did not work and neither will a ban on smoking. I think that smokers should have a place to do their disgusting habit, as long as it is away from me. However, they have the right to do what they want with their body. 30 years ago we were all mislead and lied to by the tobacco companies about the risks of smoking. Today you would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to know the risks. Yet people still chose to smoke.

The 55 mph speed limit saves lives and saves gas and that is a pair of cold hard facts. Yet when it was law in the US it was routinely broken and ignored. In fact it made all Americans consider speed limits to be mere advisements. The ban on 70 mph didn’t stop the voters or the states from reinstating those limits. The ban never worked, there is only so much control you can put on people’s lives before they revolt. Prohibition was our first experiment with that and its worse legacy was the rise of the Mafia.

So be it, it is your life and a person deserves as much freedom as they can responsibly handle. It is not the job of government to control our lives in every detail. Freedom is a given right of the US and our freedoms are what makes us different and better than any other country. Sorry, about the American pride there, but I don't feel bad about telling what I feel is the truth; even if it may offend other nationalities.

Smokers have the right to smoke and I will do nothing to curtail those rights. I also have the right to breathe clean air so I will not want any smoker to smoke with me around them. As long as they keep it to themselves they can smoke like chimneys for all I care. I think we need age limits, because teenagers are not responsible enough to make intelligent decisions. Those darn hormones drive an otherwise sane mind insane, and they are too insane to realize it.

A ban on smoking will be routinely broken and ignored. It will also popularize the smoking of crack and marijuana. If smoking a simple cigar is illegal than what is the difference between a cigarette and a joint? You can get a traffic ticket for both. How long before a blunt (cigar laced with crack cocaine) becomes just as acceptable. That is a point I don’t want to reach.

I agree with Bill Mar (host of Politically Correct and self-proclaimed Libertarian), people need as much freedom as possible. It is not the job of government to curb those freedoms unless they harm people. Alcohol is allowed, but drinking while under the influence is not allowed. A smoker should be able to smoke, but they should be held responsible for paying additional cigarette taxes to support the health care of the victims of cigarettes. We do need to keep tobacco out of the hands of children, just like booze they don’t have the maturity to handle it and to make the proper decision; the lure of the cigarette and the high you get is too strong.

Smoke’em if you got em, just keep the smoke out of my face, and be prepared to pay for your folly. My father quit smoking, but took it up again and finally it killed him. He was having trouble breathing and was too stubborn to see a doctor about it. He was a NASA engineer so he was a smart man and had to know what was going on. I miss my father and I hate the tobacco companies for taking him away too early, but that was my father’s choice and he knew what he was doing.

The cost of the tobacco use is 10 to 100 times the taxes collected. It makes sense to reduce tobacco use.

Farming is also pretty subsidized, including tobacco farming. So tobacco farming would also involve govt funds being put into it. How about programs to give farmers other types of cash crops?

I want personal responsibility for all.

Smoking is not against the law. I hate sin taxes. If you smoke and get cancer, pay for it yourself. If you can't pay for it yourself, you at least lived free before you died.

I want tobacco to be eliminated from the face of the earth from now beyond the end of time. This is a vile and putrid habit, and is an abomination to God. It is a form of desecration of the Temple of the Body.
