I wish someone would invent a cheap car without the horn option... that would be a bless!

Psycho- sorry brother for the misunderstanding, I posted this while I was sleepy hehe
Wise heart- yes, that sure was a dream
gigi- u don't have to be a driver in order to be able to answer this q.. it's very general, about the traffic noise. I don't drive in Egypt either, used to drive in USA, but I can still hear the noise lol
Sabrina- I know what u mean, I live on the 10th floor and I still hear it like I'm on the 1st
Redwine- aww, I understand u miss Egypt. When I go to the North Coast in summer, it is so lovely and quiet, but I come back missing cairo streets with its tons of honking cars
Egypty- u forgot to mention another kind of honk. My husband taught me this one when guys are playing around with girls they give a honk that sounds like "tret tet tret tet" equivalent for "ba7ibik ba7ibik" lol
there is another one when they're calling someone names, but I'd rather not say this one lol.
Noha- I love misa7araty! I used to hear it when I was a kid and I loved it.

I know what you mean. Where I live there are no honks, but sometimes there are other noises like weddings that last till the crack of dawn. I say nas ma3andihash dam! But honestly, when I'm away from Egypt, I miss all those little things like the noises and the smells and the sensations that are part of life in Egypt. Whenever it starts to get on my nerves, I just remind myself that I'd rather be here with all the noise than away from Egypt where it is peace and quiet!
Now try to get some sleep! HONK, HONK!

Someone in Egypt needs to come up, with a limiter/electric shock device that starts to electrocutes the driver after say 3 honks/day. That would be the maximum quota for every driver.
That is the ONLY way to stop this horrible horn-honking disease!!! HARAAAAM!!!

yes, i can imagine it.
it happened in Alex when the previous govorner issed a regulation.
it said that every car that blew a horn would be Fined on the spot. if the car wasnt caught in the street, its licence number was taken, reported , and on the same day, a traffic policeman knocked at the door of the driver and claimed the Fine .
this is punishment on the spot.
it works in education , and it worked in traffic.
alas, bec the govorner was so efficient, he was given another position in cairo, and another man replaced him.
alas, the new govorner doesnt do anything that improves the second capital of egypt.

Asalam alaikum, u know its not the regular car horn that gets to me, so much as the buses or truck with the NUCLEAR POWERED ones. U know the kind that u can hear from 5 kilometers away? The kind that if they beep yu, it can literally scare u 1/2 to death? Ive learned to tune the regular ones out...."ban the nuclear powered horns" should be a priority for the next king, uhh i mean president of Egypt.

there diffrent kinds of honking ..most of them are done by taxi drivers
1-a ''hi'' honk ...it's when taxi drivers greet each other .it's usually vry short
2-an ''angry''honk ..all drivers do it ..it's vry long
3-a '' u r stupid''honk....it means that the other driver is laughing at u ..or when the driver honk for someone walking in the middle of the street
i hate taxi driver ..they always pick on the ''malaky'' drivers they think that they own the road
a piece of advice:
always keep a distance of at least 2 meter between u and any car especially ''el mokrabasat'' w ''el taxi''
note: i hear that kabnory has sound proof windows

I feel the same problem and few times I saw the street crowded without much horns. At that time I checked my ears as I couldn't believe it for few minutes to happen with very few horns and lots of cars at the same time. Maybe it was only a dream or most of the horns at that time didn't work.

ohhhh yes ruby i sooooooo agree with you, last time i was in Cairo i was on 14th floor of Sheraton towers and i still got woken up with honks, we dont have this is London.
you know one time i came back from Cairo to London and the first thing i noticed was how quiet it was in London with out the honk. sometimes i am in a taxi and they just honk for fun. it drives me crazy, and i ask them to please be quiet.

I miss it... I was only there for 3 weeks (I stayed in Giza), but I loved all that noise and energy, it was like my lullaby each night. Do the buses still not stop? Does everyone still have to run to catch it then jump off? Wow, thanks for the memories. Ahib al qahira!
