Wow! $150 dollars! You are all very generous.
Do you know if your Dr. boss likes the theater? Would he like to go to plays, musicals or the ballet? If so, season tickets or special tickets to certain perfomances would be nice.
Do you live in an area where a professional athletic team plays? Tickets can be costly (like for basketball). You can give him a gift card to the team and he can go to the site to order tickets.
If you want something more permanent, a gift card for a portrait may be nice. If he has a family, getting a family portrait done by a professional photographer would give him a lasting gift.
Do you know where he likes to go on vacations? If so, you can get a gift basket together for the trip- beach towels, lotion, etc. all for the next big trip.
Digital cameras are very affordable now. My husband bought one for about $120 and bought a "memory card" or something like that to put into the camera so he could take more than just 5 photos.
Just a few ideas....
ps is he married? Would his wife have any ideas?

you could ask his spouse if she comes in what his favorite sports or his hobbies are.
If he is anything like my doctor, (he loved old cars, and golf.) he maybe interested in something other than golf or sports.
You can tell alot about a doctor by looking in his office. Does his office give any kind of clue of what he likes?
Or you could get him a gift card from a Sports Store! He may like fishing, or hunting. He may even like baseball. This way he would be able to get things that he would like.

It's easy to spend about that amount on tickets to any popular touring play or area sports event. Even if he's not a fan of theatre or football, most people are willing to give it a shot when they've got the tickets, and end up enjoying themselves. (I'd lean more toward theatre if I was doing the giving.)
Other options are something for his office that will improve its appearance or efficiency without being subject to his personal tastes. That is, you wouldn't buy him curtains, but you might replace that dented file cabinet or metal bookcase with oak or mahogany to coordinate with his desk, one of those Bush or Sanders kits ready to assemble.
For $150 or so, you might get him a pretty nice desk chair, in leather.
Or, if he's doing great income-wise, you might be able to determine his particular medical concerns and donate in his name. AIDS or cancer research, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, lead paint abatement in your city...

If he's anything like our doctors,he must like wearing a really good cologne. Either find out what his favorite is and get that-or go to a good store and buy something the salesgirl recommends. The cost of a good cologne can cost $150.,what with wrapping etc.
