Do you think they should allow students in schools to wear trenchcoats again. Even though problems like the famous "Columbine High Shooting" could repeat. What do you think? Even though myself wouldn't want to wear a trenchcoat to school, lol... >_>

My husband and I had completely different reactions to this. I thought "What? You're not allowed to wear a trenchcoat to school? That's crazy." My husband thinks of course they shouldn't allow it.

My reasoning is that if you want to get a gun into school, rules against trenchcoats aren't going to stop you. Banning trenchcoats because those guys at Columbine wore them gives them some lasting recognition which I imagine they might have appreciated in some twisted way. And finally, way before Columbine I used to be a trenchcoat wearing teen who just thought a long black coat looked cool. (And come to think of it, I kept the coat for a few years after until it wore out.) I never wanted to upset anyone, much less harm them. The idea that I should have to give up MY coat because some idiots did something awful wearing a similar coat would have offended me greatly.

On the other hand, my husband feels that it shouldn't be allowed because some copycats might wear trenchcoats to school for the purpose of intimidating people or forming cliques that actually plan to harm other students. I certainly wouldn't want my kid to be intimidated or harmed by such a group. I guess you can't make a rule that says that sweet, happy students can wear whatever kind of coat they like, but surly ones have to stick to short coats.

It is fine to wear trenchcoats. The problem is not clothes it is the people that do the tragedies. Doesn't matter what a person wears if a person is intent on doing something, they will do it no matter what they wear and find other ways to conceal items no matter if it is a trenchcoat or uniform. I know all these precautions and everything but there will always be someone to break through the precautions, that is what they do if they are that determined to do something. We can only hope they are caught, if they can be, and made to face justice. Those things that happened were tragedies yes but you can't just point the finger at certain people and certain clothing. Except for the repeat offenders and some people that give signs, you just don't know who is going to do what until they do it.

My friend wears a trenchcoat to school alot. (Althought I don't see why because in my opinion they're ugly unless youre a detective) so i dont know. she is the only one that wears one, that ic an see tho. . Reminds me..they care if you're wearing a baseball cap more than they do if you're wearing a weapon concealing coat.

Well trenchcoats just give you more room to hide things in! I think that all schools should resort to uniforms, that way no one is dressed any better than anyone else and it is professional, there harder to hide explosives/drugsin and does not cause a distraction to other children.

No I do not. The kids that wear those coats usually belong to an outcast goup. I think it should be in every school's dress code to ban trench coats at school or on school property.

I think trenchcoats should be allowed in proper weather, but it also depends on how they use it. For example they could load their trenchcoat with all their stuff instead of using a backpack.

Good question. I'm trying out trench underwear. Designed for people who desire trench clothing but wish to avoid the stigma of other more obvious trench apparel!!!!

It's okay. I don't think the problem is what they wear but how they behave.
