12/12 + 12/12 + 5/12 = 29/12
12/12 = 1 so 12/12 + 12/12 = 1+1 = 2
29-24 = 5

12 goes into 29, 2 times (12 * 2 = 24) with 5 remaining (29 - 24 = 5). So 29/12 = 2 5/12.

let say that we have 6/2 we know that would be equal to 3 because 2 can go in 6, 3 times....so if we have 7/2 then it would be 3 1/2 because 2 can go into 7 3 times but there is one left over...
so for 29/12 you would know that 12 can go into 29 2 times because 2*12= 24...but 24 is five less than 29 so you get 2 5/29.....

Because 1 = 12/12, so 2 = 24/12. Add 5/12 and you get 29/12.

You can translate the 2 to 24/12. The 5/12 comes from 29-24=5.
Simply think of it as how many 12's you can fit in 29, which would be two, multiplied by 12 equals 24. The remainder goes beside it (5).

12 goes into 29 evenly twice, leaving 5 left over (24+5=29)
The 5 is a remainder over 12. Answer = 2 5/12.
To go the other direction, just multiply the 12 by 2 and add the 5.

If you use a calculator, you can do the following:
29 divided by 12 = 2.4166666...
2nd part... 5/12 = 0.4166666... (this plus 2 whole) = 2.416666
SO... 29/12 = 2.416666 and 2 5/12 = 2.4166666
