E-voting with a paper trail is the only way to ensure honest elections. The paper ballots would be counted afterwards to verify the electronic ballots were accurate. Then they could be stored at a secure site if anyone challenges the results.

So long as the voter gets a receipt from a printer prior to leaving the booth, we have a trail. That paper receipt should be scanned into another printer after leaving the booth, like just outside the 100 foot mark with the Peoples blessing.
(That second count would be taken outside the voting room with a local newspaper venue that reports to the local television media that night, and we do our own count via television to make sure the second count is the same as what the government will ultimately tell us. If there is a huge discrepancy, we protest the count with our receipts.)

No, they're a really bad idea, because computers break, programs have bugs and a power cut could affect the votes.
Computer programs could be written to ignore votes from certain people and data is too easy to alter

Maybe we could have a paper ballot where the voter votes for their candidates and at one corner of the ballot, there's a code number and the ballot is scanned and stored into a computer. Thanks!

no why would it. it seems to me that the paper trail was and has been the problem. it allows the democrats to try and rig elections like what happened in Florida between Bush, and Gore.
if there wasn't a paper ballot Gore would never had been able to try his failed rigging of the election.
