Sounds like alcohol for you isn't the problem, but just a symptom. Ask your self what happened to trigger you're decision to get drunk. If you can't find it, it could be just where you were at the time or who you were with.
I have tried to stop bad behaviors before, and there is always an underlying cause. I have to remind myself that this is not what I want and also have to avoid people or places that tempt me.
Hope this helps . Love to talk more if I can help !

Until one is ready to deal with what is in their lives, the drinking, drugs, food, sex, etc. will continue to be there for them.

You may be triggered, but you always have control of pouring something from the bottle. If the "trigger" is something that you are prepared to deal with, you can set aside alcohol forever. Until then, you may struggle and even become worse.

When you take control of your thought processes, the triggers will lose their significance in your life.

Therapy. Someone very close to me has used this for that reason and it does work.

Just dont beat yourself up if you slip up- just try not to drink the next day. Take it one day at a time.

Don't hang around people who will help you fail. Be around people who dont drink.

Find a hobby, something that you love to do or wold like to do and put your energy into that.

It will get better. Dont quit quitting.

I smoked for 15 years and quit cold turkey almost 2 years ago. I imagined what the smoking was doing to my body each time I took a puff, and that worked, you may want to visualize what drinking does to your body- imagine it destroying your liver, erroding your esophagus to the point of cancer, just ruining everything good i your body. It helps!

i seriously dont drink or smoke or anything like that but i do have some encouraging words... ok the question is do u wanna quit? is it something you really need? if u are in the urge to drink or take drugs drink something with caffeine in it or take up a hobby so you dont think about it as much. if you are the one who wants to quit thats a good thing it just takes a little will power. if you can do that you can do anything!

this a very good question as well as a very difficult answer.
all i can say is: God be with you.
it will be a very difficult journey, with lots of bumps in the road, mountains to climb and fears to overcome. it will not be easy.
i suggest looking into AA and getting some real help from professionals.
your in my preys.

We all have addictions, weather its drink, food, drugs, sex, or just plane self denial. we're all on the edge, so your not alone.
observe your habit without reacting , just observe your feelings when you have the urge to drink, and it will slowly lead into something more positive.
just observe.

How could i answer this as a philosophical question? Hmm...
Well, usually in philosophy questions are answered by questions.
So my answer is this: What does drinking mean to you?
