Why does Don Cherry still have a job?

He is a known racist...

For those who wonder why I say he is racist, I simply watch TV and read newspaper... Just search his name on the net and you'll find enough informations to change your mind... Or maybe you are just like him, that's why you protect him... Try to keep an open mind for once.

But the suits are awesome! He's such a fashion guru! Mindnumbing really! It causes you to have visions w/o having to take any drugs. The ppl are under his spell..the suits put out hypnotical messages.

Don Cherry still has a job because he is a relic of days long forgotten. Cherry is considered a man who "tells it like it is", but that doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot if there is no factual basis behind the comments. Yes, he can be a bit of a windbag and racist (he constantly bashes European players...I haven't heard him say anything about other minorities), but if someone is into that dated rhetoric, then he's their guy.

Because of his brain. As someone mentioned before, he knows more hockey than any other hockey analyst in Canada. That makes him the number one guy. Plus, he's a top ten Greatest Canadian. Anyone remember that show?

The European players thing is as dead as my horse. Tons of Europeans now are hard-nosed players who has proven Cherry wrong, and Grapes has shut up about it.

On a personal note, I hate it when people accuse someone else of being a racist. Everybody's a racist to some degree and people who play the racism card is a hypocrite. I guarantee you, if you see a black guy driving a decent car (say an early millenium car) while blaring up rock music, it will catch your attention because it is out of the ordinary and out of the stereotype. It will also stay in your mind longer than if you see some white guy doing the same thing.

Do you have some way to back up your statement? It has to be well documented for it to be 'KNOWN.' Why don't I know? Do you know what a racist is or is it a word you've heard often and realize it has power to make people shutter in fear? So let's have it. Your proof. Otherwise we'll have to ask the answer nazis to remove your question. It's just an attempt to stir up trouble and promote hatred as most of us seem to see it.

You Kidding me? He's knowledgable, he's fun and he is a character.
He also know's what it takes to entertain and isn' that what it is about.
I don't think he really believes some of the things he says but know's that it will keep the people coming back.
In the age where all players and coaches are politically correct Don says it straight and the people love him for it.

He still has a job because he still breathes. The man is an icon. And by the way, to say that a French-Canadian like Luc Robitaille or a European like Yashin is soft isn't racist; it's mildly observant.

Don Cherry isn't politically correct--plain and simple. However, Canadians are intellegent enough to change the channel if they don't like what is being said. People watch him for being himself. If you can't handle that, I suggest taking a couple of Tylenol and laying down.

Since my hubbie had satellite put in we no longer get Canadian tv. I miss Don Cherry. I thought he was alot of fun to watch mostly for his clothes.

Well first of all, whether or not he is a racist is debatable. Secondly, his job is to talk hockey and entertain the audience, and he is one of the best in the field at doing both. So why wouldn't he have a job?

Grapes is the man. Yes he hates French Canadians and Russians, but hey at least he is a real person not just a tool.
