With Mercedes van version names the initial number refers to the GVW (so 2 for a 2.8tonne version, 3 for a 3.2 or 3.5t, 4 for a 4.6t, 5 for 5.0t, etc.). The next two numbers refer to the approximate power output in tens of horsepower, so 08 for 80bhp, 11 for 110bhp, 13 for 130bhp, 15 for 150bhp and 18 for 180bhp, etc.).
Although the 311 and 313 have effectively the same engine, it is in slightly different states of tune. The 311 has 109bhp (80kW), while the 313 has 129bhp (95kW).
