I've been reading around and a lot of people are saying UC Davis is not necessarily a "good" school for pre-med since mostly it's agricultural when compared to other schools like...believe it or not...and with all due respect....UCSB

Some even rank UC's as :
1) berkeley 2) UCLA 3) UCSD 4) irvine 5) UCSB(are you kidding me) 6) UC Davis

this is ridiculous....I thought UC Davis had much more reputation than people accredit them for, especially the pre-med "program" (if that's what you'd like to call it)

Am I wrong? or is this true?
so pre-med students at UC Davis should be a bit pessimistic towards their medical school goals?!?

and I've found out that many med students come out from UC Irvine and Davis is ranked like 3rd or 4th...are all my statistics wrong? Am I wrong?

Those rankings are pretty much correct (yes, I was surprised about UCSB as well... but it consistently gets high marks in national rankings).

But Davis is a GREAT place to go for pre-med. Davis is known for two things: its agricultural program AND its medical program. So I'd say going there is a good idea.

I go to Berkeley, but I know a few people who went to Davis, and almost of all of them went there for its medical (or closely related) programs.

According to U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges 2008: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1natudoc_brief.php

Berkeley - # 1 public university in the nation (public universities are denoted with an * in the ranking, many campuses are tied at the same ranking with other universities)
UCLA - # 3
UCSD - # 7
UC Davis - # 9
UC Santa Barbara - # 10
UC Irvine - #10
UC Santa Cruz - # 21
UC Riverside - # 26

Generally the undergraduate program of a college is the feeder to that college's medical school. So if you attend Davis, you have a better than average chance of getting into Davis's medical school.

The ranking of premed programs is pretty much the same as the ranking of undergraduate programs.

US News ranks UC-Davis at #42 in the US. UCSD is #38 and UCSB is ranked #44. these schools are pretty much comparable and rated closely to other great public universities (e.g., Georgia Tech, University of Illinois and University of Washington) and great private universities (e.g., Syracuse, NYU and Case Western).

Ag schools actually prepare you very well for medicine.
