I have a 1999 grand prix that NEEDS to have a block heater installed..... How would I go about doing that? Should I attempt it on my own or get it done by a mechanic?

The easiest one to install for someone who's not sure of what to do they have at Auto Zone or any autoparts store. It goes into one of your heater hoses. All you do is cut the hose, install the heater, clamp the hoses to it and refill your system with the proper coolant. Just make sure to wire tie the cord so that it doesn't interfere with anything.

There's a magnetic block heater too. That's even easier than the heater hose kind. Search the web for that and see what you think.

It needs to be installed directly into the engine block. Unless you have mechanical knowledge and can remove block plugs, then i would take it to a shop.

It has to be installed into the frost plug in the motor's block. This is not as easy as it sounds as these are usually buried and other components have to be removed to install it. If you are new to repairing cars, get some help.
