Hi! I have been a pharmacy technician for 17 years and I am burned out! Love the actual work...tired of nagging, complaining people. I want to change careers but hate to throw away 17 years of pharmacy and insurance knowledge. Any suggestions for a job in which I could still use some of this knowledge? And get paid a decent wage? Not asking for the moon, just maybe a wage over $20 per hour. Maybe that is asking for the moon.....I don't know....I've been locked away in the pharmacy too long! Also, I am currently enrolled in college taking business classes. Thanks for your time!

Try hospital pharmacies, they pay techs more than retail. The starting salary for techs at a local hospital is $14 per hour. They would probably honor some of your experience and start you higher. You might want to look at PBMs, pharmacy benefits manager, because of your insurance knowledge. If you are working for a chain pharmacy, see if they have corporate tech jobs like being a tech trainer.
In retail, techs really have it bad. Low pay and a trying work environment leads to a lot of turnover.

X-ray tech or something related to that. Why won;t you try to get into pharmacy school? You know all of the pros and cons of it. Your insurance knowledge is invaluble for this profession.
